i have discovered my new favourite website.

this one is my favourite - i laughed out loud so much when i saw this, and am still laughing now.

people are such comedy sometimes.

blitzkrieg bop

the 40's is definitely one of my favourite periods of history. the second world war, the fashion, the dancing (east-coast swing, lindy hop, american tap!), the music. so when my very good friend rhema showed me this, i could not have thought of anything i would rather spend my saturday night doing. a DANCE? where people actually DANCE? it's something that has been lost really, something which none of my generation have really experienced. a good thing for the rhythmically challenged i suppose, but rubbish for me, when all i want to do is dance all the time. the next most important item on the agenda is what to wear.
1) all out glamour?

2) party wear? (i absolutely adore the yellow dress)

3) military chic? narrow tweed suits, pussybow blouses; everyone's heard the stories of women drawing lines up the back's of their legs to resemble the seams of nylon stocking, but i found a new one the other day - of women using bisto and water to create the darker colour? an early st. tropez tan, i guess..!

4) sportswear?

but, the final decision has been made on a red, floral tea-dress (bought from beyond retro - no it's not real 40's, sigh, it's a reproduction) with a thin black belt (found in mother's wardrobe, probably 80's), black mid-heeled court shoes with a strap (standard, from schuh about five years ago), a cream scarf (rokit, shoreditch) over my (perfectly curled and pinned!) hair, gold button earrings and a small, clasped handbag (80's, from a vintage shop in brighton), peplum blazer and red lipstick. i'll leave you with these to get you in the mood ;)

victory!

hey big spender

i am terrible.

i even set myself a list of things to buy this season, and i have got off to the exact opposite of a flying start, buying exactly none of the things i said i would.

right. so. so far this month, i have bought:
1) black bow hair slides.
2) two pairs of thick ribbed tights, one black pair and one grey.
3) big gold earrings (obviously) from h&m.

and finally... another pair of trainers! anyone who knows me will know that i've been banging on about another pair of high-tops for god knows how long. my fantastic friend dominic used his industry contacts at nike to get me a next day appointment at nike i-d with the fantastic mr. nick a so that i could design my own. nike i.d is actually amazing. they even have a fridge full of all kinds of liquids delights. we just sat there for most of it, sort of talking about my shoes, but mostly just chatting about weekends, birthdays, music, hometowns and a bunch of other stuff. dominic turned up half way through to help me make my final decisions and then i walked away with a 10% discount, a kiss on each cheek from mr. nick a (oh yeah) and these bad boys:

i am so ridiculously excited for all my presents to come, but most of all for my dunks. they are gloriously bright and tacky and exactly how i wanted them. i got an email the other day saying they were being created, and they should be in-store in about a month. they say 'k douche' on the side, because me, dominic and nick thought that this was very funny at the time. no one else found this very funny, and just thought that i was, in fact, a douche. but oh well. i will look at it and laugh. and plus, i got off lightly because i came very close to having 'gayhole' on there instead.

the saga continues: part 2

and so we move on to part 2: coats. i really don't seem to have enough of these. my friend helena has one entire wardrobe dedicated solely to outerwear, whereas i seem to make do with one or two (well, one or two that i actually wear) per year. however; now i as well have seen the light - the importance of the coat!

i have been lusting after this mac for about a year now, and it's still driving me mad. i thought i'd lost my chance to get it but then allsaints brought it out again and so my desire has been awoken once more. at £195 i don't think it's too expensive for me not to buy it - it looks completely amazing on because it's huge (makes my legs look like twigs and hides tum, double plus) and it will go with pretty much everything as macs do.

i was going to buy this last season again, and even got half way to the till then (apparantly) thought better of it. but it has re-appeared on the vintage section, hurrah! it would be so useful on those days when i really can't be bovd to look nice (tuesday mornings on the way to work, most likely) and with military boots it couldn't fail to look awesome. plus it's really warm, got loads of pockets and a MASSIVE hood which makes you look like the grim reaper, which you would obviously want to given the chance so basically it just gets a double thumbs up from me.

last one: the all important leather jacket. i no longer like my black, hooded bomber that i bought last year and so need to invest in a new one. this is from, you guessed it, last season, and yes i did want it last year. (i'm noticing that i get really repetitive? obsessing about shoes in elle and allsaints vintage coats..?) however, it's ridiculously tight-fitting, something allsaints love to do with their leathers, blargh, and it's not on the website in my size so it will never be mine. i'm on the scout for something similar. i love the bronze military studs and sleeve zips.

autumn-winter wishlist: part 1

this season my fashion desires seem to consist almost entirely of boots and coats, with a bit of tights and other odds and ends thrown in. i find myself developing an almost fanatical longing for anything foot or coat related, and so consequently have these whizzing round my brain all day long. part 1 is dedicated to boots. as you can see i may have to narrow my choices down slightly as i cannot afford to spend my entire months wages on footwear (as much as i would like to).

i wanted these bad boys on my uniform this past SS, but nowhere would blady give me them as they sold out pretty much everywhere in a size 4, which was monstrously irritating. so you can imagine my delight when i found them on the vintage part of the website! i bet you any money i won't end up buying them because they are obviously intended for summer and not winter, but the thought that they are at last available is nice. standard black military boots, definite winter must-have. i keep meaning to get these on this season's uniform but haven't got round to it yet. definitely want to wear these with a cocktail dress in the inappropriate manner that i enjoy (i regularly team nice dresses with nike high-tops - very lily allen i know but i can't help it. it's made all the more unfortunate by the fact that i recently decided to get a thick fringe cut, and harbour a penchant for large gold earrings.. oh dear).

these are quite like some that i saw in elle this month, which were apparantly from urban outfitters - except that i can't find them in there. or on the website. i can't find the picture on the elle website actually so instead i have found this pair which are from asos just not as nice. the more i look at this pair the cheaper they look which is vair vair annoying as the other ones really didn't look cheap... anyway i want to wear them with a pretty chiffon or crepe dress in a light rose kind of colour and some ribbed or ripped tights, topped off with my amazing leather/fur coat.

it fills me with shame to divulge the information that this pair are actually from river island. i can't help but have an extremely middle-class kind of snobbery when it comes to this shop; i am filled with an extreme sense of dread and uncontrollable visions of dimante'd denim and body-con ruched jersey whenever i hear the name. unfortunately i really cannot help loving these, so i may actually have to break my aversion to the place and venture inside. damn you elle magazine.

but most of all i neeeeed a pair of stupendous amazing fantastic heeled, laced, tan boots from office that i saw in (once again) elle (what is it with me and elle magazine this week?). but alas i can find them NOWHERE. i have ventured on too many occasions in too short a space of time into the shop to hunt for the prodigal shoes, questioned shop assistants galore and scoured the internet in the hope of making them mine, but to no avail. woe is me.
